Anne Applebaum visited Ukraine being invited by Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and KMFA

 

Anne Applebaum, world-known journalist, historian, writer, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, recently visited Ukraine being invited by Kyiv-Mohyla Academy thanks to the assistance of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America and its president, Mrs. Marta Farion.

 

During her visit, Anne Applebaum took part in series of events.

 

The first event was the Charity Evening of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy on November 19th, 2017 at Art Arsenal, where Anne Applebaum was an honorary speaker. The writer arrived specially from London to support the strategically important for the development of our university project of the Digital Campus. During the event, Anne Applebaum presented her book, noting that it is based on the works of Ukrainian historians and scholars. During the charity auction at the event guests could get Anne Applebaum`s books.

An intense few-day program of the Anne Applebaum staying in Kiev included many diverse events and meetings.

 

One of the components of the program was an open meeting with students at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Cultural and Arts Center on November 20th. Most of the participants were Mohylians who actively asked questions. During the meeting, Anne Applebaum was awarded the Honorary Doctor of NaUKMA.

 

In addition, on November 20th, Anne Applebaum was able to meet with young Ukrainian politicians, civil servants, civil society experts, have a lunch with media leaders, hold a press-conference and book presentation at Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, and  give a series of short interviews for publications, television channels and extended interviews about her book for Radio Liberty. Besides, Anne Applebaum met with opinion leaders among politicians, government officials, cultural figures and chairmen of business associations in Ukraine.

Also Anne Applebaum met with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko together with his wife Maryna Poroshenko.
