Celebrating Kyiv-Mohyla Academy 400th Anniversary

President’s Address

Kyiv Mohyla Academy has been connected to most of the significant events in the history of Ukraine of the 17-18 centuries. In the history of modern Ukraine, Kyiv Mohyla Academy’s role in educational innovation, building a nation based on civil society, legal and moral principles has been pivotal as well.
We are proud that National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy is linked with democracy, the absence of corruption, personal honesty and responsibility, professionalism and reforms. This is a result of the vision, commitment and dedicated work of the individuals who form the Kyiv Mohyla community – professors, students, employees, alumni, friends.
That is why “Freedom. Leadership. Innovation. Let’s create the future together!”,  is the call  for the 400th anniversary celebration and its fundraising campaign.
We consider Freedom to be an essential condition for personal development, for the nation, and for the country’s future. We cultivate Leadership, and we understand it as the responsibility for decisions and their implementation. We are confident that Innovation in all areas of political, economic and social life will secure competitiveness for Ukraine and Ukrainians in the modern world.
The history of Kyiv Mohyla Academy provides numerous examples when a task impossible for one person became a successful when it became a team effort, when the whole community contributed. All of us create and develop our university, which in its turn creates and develops Ukraine.
It is a difficult and responsible task, which can be accomplished only when we work together, because we all share responsibility for each other and for the fate of our nation.
Philanthropic traditions established by Halshka Hulevychivna, Petro Mohyla, Ivan Mazepa, and others, continue in our times by Omelan and Tetyana Antonovych, and other benefactors whose names will be part of the history of our great university.
At this time of war, Ukraine is again challenged for its survival.  It seems an inappropriate time to  invest in education, but education plays a crucial role in bringing about peace, it provides the foundation of a country’s development, it is the guarantee of its security and prosperity.  Kyiv Mohyla Academy’s mission is to educate future leaders and innovators for our nation, open the world to our students, provide our students the opportunity to become responsible, professional citizens and proud and committed Ukrainians.
By supporting Kyiv Mohyla Academy today you support higher education and Ukraine’s future.
It is a goal worth working for. It is a goal worth to invest for.
      Let’s create the future together!
                                                                           Andriy Meleshevych, NaUKMA President
