NaUKMA in collaboration with GIZ continues enhancing psychosocial support at the community level in Ukraine

NaUKMA Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support received a three-year grant from the German Federal Company GIZ under the commission and financial support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development for the implementation of the project “Building Potential of Community PSS Services for Vulnerable Groups During Crises and Emergencies in Ukraine”.

The project is a continuation and expanding of the PSS capacity-building activities initiated in the regions of Eastern Ukraine within the framework of a previous successful project funded by the German Federal Company GIZ and supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The aim of the new project is to enhance the qualitative and quantitative pool of professional and voluntary social service providers capable of providing the need-based PSS services and assistance to the population in a number of new target regions in Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovograd oblasts, which have also suffered from the Russian aggression in Ukraine and, therefore, require an effective system of psychosocial support provision at the community level.

To achieve this goal, the NaUKMA Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support will actively collaborate with the two main partner universities of the project in the specified target regions – Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University and Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State University, by improving and developing skills and/or resources that are lacking, as well as providing recommendations for sustainable rooting in local communities. In addition, the university will continue cooperation with two more universities from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, with which it successfully collaborated within the previous project supported by the German Federal Company GIZ – Donbas State Pedagogical University from Sloviansk, Donetsk region, which was relocated to Dnipro, and Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University from Starobilsk, Luhansk region, which was relocated to Poltava. Furthermore, the Center will also establish links with local authorities and on-site social service providers.

Project «Building Potential of Community PSS Services for Vulnerable Groups During Crises and Emergencies in Ukraine» is being implemented by the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy as part of the GIZ project «Gender-responsive approaches in mental health and psychosocial support in Ukraine» funded by the German government.
