The Federal Minister of Education of Austria visited the NaUKMA Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

On Thursday, September 11, as part of his official visit to Ukraine, the Federal Minister of Education of Austria, Mr. Christoph Wiederkehr, visited the NaUKMA Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support.
Since 2022, with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education of Austria, in cooperation with the State Service of Education Quality of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Center has successfully implemented several phases of the project "SAFE SPACE – Emergency Psychological Support for Students and School Teachers", aimed at supporting school teachers in their work with traumatized children and helping to increase the effectiveness of pupils' psychological adaptation. As a result, the interventions developed within the project not only help children in schools, but also correspond to new approaches to teaching introduced by the educational reform, while supervision provided by NaUKMA's team of trainers to teachers and school psychologists is recognized as a key component of the approach, which has shown promising results according to the findings of evaluation studies.
During the meeting, representatives of the Center and the Office of Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs gladly shared the results of the project with the delegation of the Federal Ministry of Education of Austria and the Embassy of Austria in Ukraine, as well as spoke on the urgent needs of psychosocial support in Ukraine, which was highly appreciated by the honored guests.
NaUKMA expresses its deep gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Education of Austria and personally to the Minister for the financial support provided to the university's projects and for an active involvement in response to urgent challenges of Ukraine in the times of war, in particular, in the field of psychosocial support.
The project "SAFE SPACE — Emergency Psychosocial Support for Students and School Teachers" had several iterations and was implemented from 2022 to 2025 under the coordination of the Austrian Agency for Education and Internationalization (OeAD-GmbH) and with the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education (BMB).
