Congratulations to the 2018 Year’s Graduates of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy!

Every year on the Day of the Constitution of Ukraine Kyiv-Mohyla Academy presents our native state with a new generation of the well-educated and proactive citizens. This year the Graduation Ceremony was magnificent: starting in the early morning with a traditional student action of washing Hryhorii Skovoroda monument and a bright performance of the Kyiv-Mohyla Student Theater on stilts, and proceeding with a great procession in the middle of the Kontraktova square, it filled the whole Podil with a merry festive atmosphere.

2018 is the year of jubilee for a number of the Departments at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy: the programs in Cultural Studies, History, Political Studies, Philosophy, environmental Studies, Economics and Sociology gave us the 20th generation of Masters, the program in Finance – the 15th one. At the same time this year is a debut for two newly-established programs – Computer Sciences prepared their first Bachelors and Psychology had the first Masters graduated.

Besides that the Kyiv-Mohyla Doctoral School named after its founders the Iukhumenko family gave PhD diplomas to three young scientists this year: Myroslav Laiuk became a PhD in Philosophy and Literature, Oksana Boiko – a PhD in Social Work and Tetiana Iefymenko – a PhD in Genetics. The later two diplomas were the first ones of their kind in Ukraine.

The list of speakers at the Ceremony included the President of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Prof. Andrii Meleshevych, Vice Prime-Minister of Ukraine for Regional Development Hennadii Zubko, who is an alumnus of the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, and Vice Minister of Healthcare of Ukraine Doc. Uliana Suprun as a honorary guest.

There are also three traditional congratulatory speeches from the representatives of the Academy’s professors, the current graduates and the latest alumni – this year those were delivered by Prof. Andrii Hlybovets’ from the Department of Computer Sciences, who has four Teacher of the Year Awards already, the fresh Master of Philology Olena Peleshenko and the 2008 year’s alumnus of the Master Program in Finance Kostiantyn Peresiedov, who is a president of the Kyiv-Mohyla Alumni Association today.

The Ceremony included the distribution of a number of special awards to the Kyiv-Mohyla professors, students and graduates. The laureates of Teacher of the Year 2018 Award are: Natalia Shlikhta at the Faculty of Humanities, Volodymyr Rossokha at the Faculty of Economics, Ievhen Zvieriev at the Faculty of Law, Iryna Russu at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Tetiana Iurochko at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies, and Andrii Hlybovets, at the Faculty of Computer Sciences.

The Kravets’ Award for The Practical Contribution to The Development of Ukraine for the newly-graducated specialists was given to the Master of Molecular Biology Viktoriia Vasyl’chenko for her Master Thesis.

Also there are two special motivation awards for the Kyiv-Mohyla students – Oberih (The Talisman) Award for Preservation of the Kyiv-Mohyla Spiritual Values and the Multiplier of Happiness Grant given to the authors of the most inspirational projects in the cultural sphere and charity. This year the former was given to the Director of the Kyiv-Mohyla Student Theater Tetiana Shuran and the later was split between two equally inspirational projects – the Museum of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy under the direction of Taiisiia Sydorchuk and Kyiv FREE Couch for Football Fans 26/05/18 organized by Tymur Demchuk, Viktor Kylymar and Viacheslav Kylymar.

The Ceremony ended with the traditional farewell wishes from turtle Alma – the old Symbol of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy – and the act of Oath given by all alumni. At this point our graduates started their new way full of new perspectives and challenges.

The Academy sincerely wishes good luck to all of them!
